After joining Gym Plus in 2009 Joel has been one of our most consistent members, using the facilities over 45 times in the last two months is testament to this.
Joel, who is originally from South Africa, has integrated into the Gym Plus community very easily and is a member who all the gym staff like to see and talk to on a daily basis.
With the usage that Joel gets from the gym it is no wonder that his fitness is one of the highest in the facility, and one that is noticeably getting better.
Congratulations to Joel from all the Staff and Members at Gym Plus.
Colin is a member who epitomises what changing your life-style for the better is all about. Within the last 18 months Colin has started a regular and successful fitness regime and given up smoking completely! Colin did not find it easy at first but stuck at it and is now reaping the rewards of all his hard work. He has lost over 2 stone and says he feels much fitter and healthier for doing so.
Well done to Colin from all at Gym Plus.
Congratulations to Adam for becoming the first Member of the Month in 2011.
This award is long overdue in the eyes of all the staff at Gym Plus, as Adam has been a regular here for the last 3 years and has a staggering average of 19 visits per month.
This dedication is made even better when you consider Adam runs 4 mile here and 4 mile back home 3-4 times per week and still has time to train in the gym.
Adam has just started on a new READY programme that he hopes will continue to improve him throughout 2011 and beyond.
As you will all appreciate, Adam is a deserved winner for this month and sets the tone for what we all hope is going to be another successful year for every member of the gym.
Good luck to all members for this year and once again congratulations to Adam for being awarded January's Member of the Month.
Over the last three years Elaine has made the trip from the other side of town to keep her training regime going. Elaine was once a member of the Sheffield United owned Impact Health and Fitness but when that closed in mid 2007 she made the choice to transfer her membership up to the new Gym Plus Crookes site.
Elaine makes the trip up to Crookes 2-3 times per week and is one of our most loyal members. She is currently on our Ready, Set, Go training programme and says she feels the benefit every time she comes in.
From all at Gym Plus, well done.
Well liked and respected Gym Plus member Matthew O'Connor, 33, who lives in Sheffield, was revealed as the lucky winner of the Malta Tour Challenge, Fitness Passport this week. In conjunction with visitmalta.com, members from Gym Plus in the Derek Dooley Community Centre have been taking part in the challenge to win a fabulous four night holiday for two in the 5 star Phoenicia Hotel in Malta.
The challenge was to travel the distance from Malta's airport and back via Floriana, Valetta, St Julian's, St Paul's Bay, Mellieha Bay, Victoria, Mdina, Zurrieq and Marsaxlokk. ÊMembers had to cover the full 26 miles by training on the Treadmill, the Bike and the Cross Trainer before 31st July.
This was no easy challenge, but Matthew, who has been a member at the Crookes gym since early 2008, trains there around 3 to 4 times a week, as well as being an enthusiastic member of Plus Runners AC, a running club which meets every Thursday. Matthew also takes part in charity events, finishing a very respectable 2nd place in the Neurocare Head Start 5k run back in April.
Gym Plus Fitness Supervisor Paul Harmston said, "It's no surprise that Matt took part and did so well at this challenge. He trains hard and is a valuable member of the gym. Even after a commute from the school he works at in Wakefield, Matt is dedicated and disciplined enough to still come and do his training session. Huge congratulations to him from everyone at Gym Plus."
Ex professional football player George Santos has been a member at Gym Plus for a year and a half. George uses the gym regularly and takes full advantage of the free ready, set, go program scheme and knowledge that the Gym Plus fitness staff have to offer.
George still plays football, winning the Masters with Tranmere last year and last month won the Merseyside leg of the Masters with the same team and also played in an exhibition match between Hallam FC legends and Blades legends. George had a fantastic game and whilst the other player's joints were aching the day after, George was back in the gym training hard. He was able to do this thanks to regular training and hard work.
We would like to congratulate George on all his achievements and his dedication to stay fit and healthy.
GymPlus has joined in a nationwide campaign to encourage people to get fit and active.
As part of the fitness industry's contribution to the Government's Change4Life campaign, the MoreActive4Life scheme provides free access to trained exercise professionals and local clubs and leisure centres.
Sheffield MP and former Sports Minister Richard Caborn saw the campaign in action when he visited GymPlus to learn more about it and get involved with some of the activities available.
